How automobile enthusiastic are you? Even if you have simple interest in Automobile industries or just cars "Volkswagen" should be very much common to you. Volkswagen which is a German company and word's 3rd largest automaker. the word "Volkswagen", is a German word which can be translated to english as "For the Love of the car" or "For the love of people's car". Anyway enough history lesson, let's get to the point. Volkswagen created a history or milestone on Nov 22, 2006 when one of its model Touareg V10 TDI has succeeded in towing a Boeing 747-200 weighing approximately 155 tonnes.

The

completed seven complete runs on the auxiliary runway at Dunsfold Aerodrome, 40 miles south west of London. Pretty impressive isn't it? The car was a standard production Touareg fitted with a special towing adapter to connect it with the aircraft towing link and loaded with 4.3 tonnes of metal ballast to bring its total weight to just over seven tonnes (7,030 kg) including the driver who's declared weight was 65 Kg. This Touareg V10 TDI model is already available in Australia (AU$121,990) and gained popularity.

The car"s engine, self-leveling air suspension, wheels, tires and structure were all standard. One precaution that turned out to be unnecessary was the fitments of the 4.56 axle ratio from the Touareg V8 model in place of the 3.27 gearing of the V10. This was established as the demonstration was conducted in the second of the Touareg"s 12 forward gears rather than first. The final modification was to change the outer body panels for photographic purposes so that this example was visually the same as the next generation Touareg which is due to be launched next year in Europe (Australia will enjoy that model late 2007).

Touareg V10 TDI already have fame for its stability and power and won lots of on and off road awards. This model already won The Caravan Club Towcar of the Year Awards full-size 4x4 category in 2004 and 2005 and has established itself as the benchmark diesel SUV, offering an extraordinary combination of performance and fuel efficiency since it was launched in 2003.

Surprisingly when the vehicle was checked after the repeated runs and no side effects of the demands made on the engine and transmission could be found. The engine temperature remained normal, as did the transmission and the tires survived without a hint of the forces passed through them. Well for sure this Touarreq V10 TDI is going down in history as most powerful SUV ever to be introduced to consumers.

Wwwow. I was impressed by the 3 litre TDI V6 in the new Audi Q7, but V10 TDI? That's a monster and a half. Is it suitable for off-road though? Sure, it's got a powerful engine and it can tow a 747 but is the body sturdy enough for the impact of 4wding? Q7 is seen by many car reviewers as the worst 4wd ever made, and considering Audi is owned by VW, I assume similar for this car.

Nevertheless, nice publicity stunt.
