Like.com brings up Visual Image search
Riya a startup company in Silicon Valley, which is known
as a photo search company specialized in facial recognition. They just introduced an image search engine Like.com.
Like.com is currently covering image searches on Shoes, Jewelries, handbags and Watches. So what is the difference? There are a lot image search engines, right? But trust me Like.com has something new to offer, where our traditional search engines took our keyword and matches image title/description to deliver search results. You have to agree those titles or descriptions are so not enough to mach close to your intended search, as I remember sometimes when I am in great pressure in work, I upload images with just numbers as title with no description. Other issue is text can not always describe pictures properly.
So what so unique in Like.com image search? Like.com accepts keyword as search term as well as your own delivered image. They use “Visual signature” of an image to compare and produce likely results. The “Visual signature” is simply a mathematical representation of the image using 10,000 variables. If enough variables are identical, Like.com decides the images are similar. That means - If you see an image on the web, like a shoes that Tom Cruse is wearing in the picture, and use it as an image query, Like.com will return results showing shoes that look very similar. You can even narrow your search by dictating size, color, brand, shape, pattern etc.
Like.com will expand their search area and an image uploader and a toolbar, probably soon. The things that impresses me in Like.com is not only searching image of products but also the search result contain quick links to different stores from where you can shop those and another cool feature is drawing the box around a certain portion of picture to search like that.
Podtech has an interview of Riya CEO Munjal Shah; entrepreneur will learn lots of things from this Silicon Valley boomer.
