FaceBook adds IM and privacy features

Due Credit: Wired
FaceBook recently announced rolling out of its new privacy features that would give its users more options in enabling group access to information on their profiles. This is in addition to the limited profile access feature already present.

In addition, the site will also be adding a new chat feature that will be more reason for its users to continue to stay on the site.

An excerpt from Wired

Facebook now allows users to turn off Beacon. The new privacy features announced Tuesday don't extend to Beacon, however, so users who opt into that program still can't specify which friends receive Beacon alerts.

Facebook also demonstrated a new instant messaging function Tuesday that lets Facebook friends chat with one another and is scheduled to launch in coming weeks.

More web applications would make the site more appealing. Do you think that the future of the web is services around a social network, with no necessity to leave your profile for any information on the web?
