Asus's dual treat for gamers

Remember last time I covered an story on Asus Lamborghini, well looks like Asus finally got tired of making laptops with Lamborghini badge, has unveiled its first ever machines for hardcore gamers with deep pockets.

Looking to compete Alienware's LAN-party invitations are the 15 inches G1 and 17 inches G2 packing Core 2 Duo processors, up to 160GB hard drives and up to two gig of RAM. Graphics are powered by either by Nvidia's latest GeForce Go 7700 with 512MB of memory, or ATI's 512MB Mobility Radeon X1700, two extremely capable performers.

But while we're drooling over the specs, we're positively flattering over the extra gaming touches Asus has abundantly presented. The keyboard gets specially highlighted W, A, S, and D keys, while an extra OLED display above the Esc key shows useful info such as instant messages of VoIP caller IDs, usually obliterated by full-screen games. Illuminated LED strips in green or red react to on-screen action while surround sound is attempted with speakers mounted on the front and sides.

A built-in high-resolution webcam and speaker allow wire-free video conferencing anywhere without the hassle of tangling wires. Gamers can now see and talk to teammates or opponents around the world, making gaming more real than ever before!

To satisfy the most demanding viewing standards, ASUS Splendid Video Intelligence Technology integrates different multimedia data sources to reduce noise and conversion rate for a vivid display. Users can enjoy vivid images with better contrast, brightness, skin tone and color saturation for all video applications. The "Game" and "Night View" modes are great for extra gaming effects that not only sharpen image details but also enhance outlines required for underlying stealth actions.

There's no pricing info yet but don't expect all these hardcore additions to come cheap, since Asus Lamborghini pricing was too high, very less people appreciated that.

Assuming I had the deepest pockets ever, and assuming th ebattery on that thing would last for more than... an hour (hope dual cores power saving ftearues are worth it), I'd still wait for next year when Directx 10.0 videocards for laptops are out, right now any purchase of a geforce series 7 or ATI series x10 (I think that was it), isn't going to pay off come the end of next year.

thats true ahmed, but you know sometimes people by things just for gadget collection sense, and they do have deepest pockets.

Yeah, but I'm sure people are fooled, becuase there will eventually be directx 10 only games, or otherwise. THe power the 7700 wll provide for directx 9.0 is overkill, should have a nice directx 10 implentation then I see this notebook providing proper gaming for 2 years to come, more if you are that... erm... tolerant.

Yes not only that Intel class processors are coming with a new type of chipset which will have bigger cache memory. You are right Tolerance is needed, gaming technologies are just firing up, not yet achieved full length, i still found desktop gaming much more efficient compare to Laptop gaming.

I got a hand on even Alienware too which they say Gamers Laptop, but still lacking. Laptops are not yet flexible/good enough for hardcore gaming, just not yet.

Well I guess we can agree it has progressed heaps and caught up quite close to desktop's in the last 5 years...
6. November 14th 2006 @ 14:59. Kams Says:
I agree but we still need to wait a year or two for full action.

are you saying I should hold off on buying a new computer until next year?

8. November 22nd 2006 @ 21:18. Ahmed Says:
with technology waiting is always best.

Depends on what kind of computer you're looking for, and how badly you need it. If it can wait, then let it wait, especially now that newer technology is hitting the market, it probably is the best time to wait for prices to fall.

Otherwise it simply depends on what you need it for...
9. November 22nd 2006 @ 22:13. Kams Says:
Not only the price, Think about the speed of changes. 10 years ago something merely used come out new in a six months or long gap. Now everything become old model, just after a week or so.

The samsung i featured today, i just got word from my Korean friend another coming out on Friday, see not even a week. So if you want to give your wallet a rest wait, if you want further better technology you wait. But off course when you buy for necessity, that's different case
