AMD rolls out roster of plans for coming years

Its been a bad year for AMD. Intel has been just doing the right stuff at the right time and AMD has been finding the wrong in the right at the wrong time. I am of course referring to the much delayed Barcelona chips and more delays due to some critical bugs getting discovered.
Nonetheless, AMD execs were crooning to financial analysts at their Analyst Day with plans to bring some of the best tech to processors in the coming years. While the whole announcements included lot of code names, the important thing is this - they will be in business.
They are touting getting a CPU and GPU on to one die. Now, they may not ultimately be the first to do that but what matters is that with ATI under their belt, they are the ones who can claim to really do that. With that, gaming especially on the mobile front is expected to shoot off.
AMD, which right now is staying afloat due to its chips being up on the server side may as well be leading the roost in the graphics segment. Why is that? Well, for one, computing medium is getting smaller and ubiquitous. People want smoother graphics and that eventually means better GPU-CPU camaraderie. Then of course there are the quad and octo-core chips that will also come through but expect incisive competition from Intel.
The giant of the processor world has really come around to take upon its chief rival and the coming years are more important for AMD. Lets hope that the promises don't remain just promises.
